Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin claimed the Obama administration “knowingly let” dangerous MS-13 gang members into the country on “America’s Newsroom” Monday and said President Donald Trump wants to end such policies.

“This is a very appropriate and legitimate issue that president Trump is very accurate in bringing out and highlighting,” Johnson said. “The mainstream liberal press is hammering on that and making all kinds of false claims but no, I think the president is correct, Americans are concerned. We certainly have evidence of gang activity, gang members in those caravans.”

“The Obama Administration knowingly let in MS-13 gang members. So, it’s just true,” he declared. “When Democrats support sanctuary cities they’re supporting that type of criminal activity. And that’s what this president’s trying to end.”

Johnson was asked what the GOP’s chances of holding the Senate were and he said he’s hoping Republicans will gain a handful of seats and retain control.

“I’m hoping that Speaker Gingrich is correct that we actually gain some seats. But I’m not counting any chickens before they hatch,” he concluded, adding:

“We’re just out here working hard and just trying to ask every conservative, every Republican that is concerned about their individual liberty and freedom … the prosperity that President Trump and Governor Walker have really helped create in Wisconsin and America — get out there and not only vote yourself but ask nine to 10 additional people to bring them out to the polls, because the left is excited. They are ginned up in their hatred for Donald Trump. We should be excited because of our patriotism and love of freedom.”
