Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg lamented the current state of Supreme Court confirmation hearings, calling them a “highly partisan show.”
“The way it was, was right,” speaking of her own confirmation hearing where she was confirmed with a vote of 96-3, a tally that would be unheard of in today’s political climate. “The way it is, is wrong,” she added.
Ginsburg also pointed out that Antonin Scalia was confirmed 98-0 despite his known conservative leanings.
“Think of Justice Scalia, who’s certainly a known character in, what was it? 1986,” she said. “The vote was unanimous, every Democrat and every Republican voted for him. That’s the way it should be, instead of what it’s become, which is a highly partisan show.”
“The Republicans move in lockstep, and so do the Democrats. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have it go back to the way it was.”
Justice Ginsburg made these comments during an interview with Goodwin H. Liu, a former clerk who now sits on the California Supreme Court, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association at George Washington University.
Ginsburg made these comments after a very heated interview process during the Senate hearings, where he was grilled by Democrat Senators and the hearing was constantly interrupted by protestors.

Ginsburg isn’t the only liberal supporting rational thought regarding the Kavanaugh nomination.
Lisa Blatt is a self-described “liberal, feminist lawyer” who is pro-choice and voted for Hillary Clinton. All these things would lead you to expect that she would strongly be against Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump.
But you’d be wrong.
Blatt perhaps gave the strongest endorsement of Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court of anyone on Tuesday’s confirmation hearing.
Lisa Blatt is a veteran Supreme Court attorney and has won more cases than any other woman, 32 of 35 cases to be exact. Someone with her experience deserves to be listened to.
Blatt opened her statement by introducing herself as “a liberal Democrat and an unapologetic defender of a woman’s right to choose.” She also called Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg her “hero” and that she voted for both Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Hear what she had to say in support of Kavanaugh in the video below:
“I’m here today to introduce Judge Kavanaugh and urge the Senate to confirm him as a next associate justice of the Supreme Court,” said Blatt. Despite the hate she has received for her support, Blatt said that “Judge Kavanaugh is clearly qualified to serve on the Supreme Court.”
Wow! Not the words you would have expected from a bonafide liberal lawyer!
