White House press secretary Sarah Sanders confronted reporters to their face on Wednesday over the “massive media hysteria” surrounding unproven allegations of “collusion” between Russia and President Donald Trump.
When a reporter asked Sanders to respond to the “arrest and indictment of a Russian national who is accused of trying to infiltrate America organizations on the right,” Sanders let loose.

“Certainly we’re looking at that,” Sanders said. “Just to clarify, there was massive media hysteria yesterday over confusion between that individual and a White House staffer which I think shows frankly the outrageousness and the, just desire to find the negative in everything that this president does just because somebody was simply red-headed, they were accused of being some sort of spy for Russia.”
Sanders then lectured the reporters in the room, looking them in the eye and telling them to “slow down” and stop reporting fake news.
“I think this has gotten totally out of control. You have to step back, slow down and quit going after the Trump administration on every single thing,” Sanders added.
Mic senior political reporter Emily Singer sparked the hysteria on Tuesday when she tweeted that Trump was photographed in the Oval Office with a Russian “spy.”
She was way off. Singer was forced to delete the tweet and admit her “serious error.”
A White House reporter continued to press Sanders about the alleged Russia “spy,” earning him another terse response from the press secretary.
“This is a lengthy process. We’re going through it,” Sanders shot back. “However, I do have a response that simply because somebody had the same hair color, they were accused of being a Russian spy by a lot of people in this room.”
It wasn't the only time that Sanders clashed with reporters on Wednesday. CNN White House correspondent disrupted the press briefing and shouted questions at Sanders out of turn. Sanders calmly ignored her, only angering Ryan more.
When Sanders tried to move on to a reporter she actually called on, Ryan got an attitude and scoffed, "That’s alright, fine."
