Days after she was harassed and kicked out of a Virginia restaurant, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders will reportedly receive Secret Service protection as early as Wednesday.
Asked by CNN why Sanders needs protection, the Secret Service responded, "For operational security purposes the Secret Service does not comment on its protective operations.”
NBC News reported that the Secret Service will provide security at Sanders’s private residence on a “temporary basis.”
It’s unclear if a specific threat has been made against Sanders and her family.
Sanders made national headlines in Friday when she was kicked out the Red Hen restaurant in Lexington, Virginia because she works for President Donald Trump. Former Arkansas Mike Huckabee, Sanders’s father, later revealed that the owner of the restaurant even followed the Sanders family to another restaurant and continued to harass them.
Sanders addressed the incident during Monday’s press briefing.
“We are allowed to disagree, but should we be able to do so freely and without fear of harm. And this goes for all people, regardless of politics,” Sanders said.
She continued, "Healthy debate on ideas and political philosophy is important, but the calls for harassment and push for any Trump supporter to avoid the public is unacceptable. America is a great country, and our ability to find solutions despite those disagreements is what makes us unique.”
