Last week, President Trump announced that Sarah Huckabee Sanders would be stepping down from her position as White House press secretary. For many months she had endured attacks by the mainstream media and protests as she went about her daily life.
But now they’ll be a new press secretary in D.C., and she’s someone many people are already aware of.
Bloomberg announced on Tuesday that Stephanie Grisham will soon take that role. She has been serving as First Lady Melania Trump’s spokeswoman.
Grisham has a political history going back over a decade and has previously worked as a press aide on President Trump’s campaign, according to Fortune. She was also a deputy press secretary under former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
Sanders is planning to step down at the end of June. Trump praised her work on Twitter, saying she “has done an incredible job” and expressed his hope that she’ll run for governor of Arkansas.
Sanders praised the appointment of Grisham on Twitter, writing, “@StephGrisham45 will be an incredible asset to the President and the country. I’m sad to leave the WH, but so happy to leave our team in such great hands. Stephanie will do a phenomenal job. Proud to have another mom and a great friend in this role.”
Melania also had kind words for her, tweeting, “I am pleased to announce @StephGrisham45 will be the next @PressSec & Comms Director! She has been with us since 2015 - @POTUS & I can think of no better person to serve the Administration & our country. Excited to have Stephanie working for both sides of the @WhiteHouse. #BeBest”
Conservatives and Trump’s supporters reacted to the announcement about Grisham on Twitter.
