President Donald Trump visited U.S. troops in Iraq on Wednesday amid reports that he has requested a plan to withdraw America’s soldiers home from the war-torn nation after nearly two decades.
White House press secretary shared a behind-the-scenes video showing how soldiers reacted to President Trump entering the room.
Watch the video below:
After the thunderous cheers died down a little, the group of U.S. service members broke out in a chant of “USA! USA! USA!” Trump could be seen in the video pumping his fist to the patriotic chant.
".@FLOTUS Melania and I were honored to visit our incredible troops at Al Asad Air Base in Iraq,” Trump later tweeted. “GOD BLESS THE U.S.A.!”
On Christmas, Trump wished everyone, including the “Fake News Media” a merry Christmas and reiterated his intention to bring “our troops back home.”
“I hope everyone, even the Fake News Media, is having a great Christmas! Our Country is doing very well. We are securing our Borders, making great new Trade Deals, and bringing our Troops Back Home. We are finally putting America First,” the president tweeted. “MERRY CHRISTMAS.”
Trump has already ordered U.S. troops to withdraw from Syria, a move that has divided Republicans and even Trump supporters.
Trump, of course, has fought back against the criticism.
“On Syria, we were originally...going to be there for three months, and that was seven years ago - we never left,” Trump tweeted last week. “When I became President, ISIS was going wild. Now ISIS is largely defeated and other local countries, including Turkey, should be able to easily take care of whatever remains. We’re coming home!”
