House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) put up a stoic, united front as they stood together behind a podium to denounce President Trump’s Tuesday address to the nation about the crisis at the southern border.
And Twitter had an absolute field day with it.
According to Fox News, many people likened Schumer’s and Pelosi’s facial expressions to that of disappointed parents scolding their child. Others had fun manipulating screengrabs of the video footage. Even George P. Bush, son of Jeb Bush, got in on the fun.
Anti-Trump Twitter user Josh Jordan actually summed up the impression Schumer and Pelosi made with their speech quite well, writing, “Democrats had the easiest response in the world to give, and this will be the lasting image from it. Simply amazing and beyond hilarious.”
The Daily Wire brilliantly dubbed a short clip from Schumer's 2009 pro-wall speech over footage of his 2019 anti-wall speech:
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders also reacted to the Democrat response and gave her thoughts on “Fox & Friends,” calling it “sad and ridiculous.”
“They want to fight this president on everything single thing,” she added. “They care more about playing politics than they do about protecting Americans. I think what we saw last night was frankly a pathetic excuse.”
