Second Woman Accuses Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of Attacking Her

According to Fox News sources, Dr. Vanessa Tyson was not planning to pursue charges after she accused Democratic Virginia Lt. Gov. Fairfax of raping her at the Democratic National Convention in 2004. But now she has a new ally: a second Fairfax accuser.

Tyson, a fellow and professor at two prestigious California colleges, recently accused Fairfax of assaulting her in a hotel room in what had started out as a consensual encounter, according to Fox News. She originally brought her accusations to the Washington Post when Fairfax was running for lieutenant governor and then resurfaced them when it became apparent that Gov. Ralph Northam might have to resign over his blackface scandal.

Now a second woman, Meredith Watson, has come out publicly to say that Fairfax raped her in the year 2000 when they were both attending Duke University, the New York Times reported in a lengthy piece Friday afternoon.

“The details of Ms. Watson’s attack are similar to those described by Dr. Vanessa Tyson,” Watson’s lawyer said in a statement that called the rape “premeditated and aggressive.’’

Fairfax immediately denied ever assaulting Watson and said he would not resign. He has already denied assaulting Tyson.

Watson’s spokeswoman says the woman “has been concerned and angered by what she’s been reading about another victim so she decided to tell her story.” Watson is not seeking financial damages.

The emergence of a second accuser sparked former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe to immediately tweet: “The allegations against Justin Fairfax are serious and credible. It is clear to me that he can no longer effectively serve the people of Virginia as Lieutenant Governor. I call for his immediate resignation.”
