Shamed Journalist Apologizes After Trying to Prove Crenshaw is No Patriot

A liberal journalist really stuck his foot in his mouth.

Muslim TV producer and New York Times contributing op-ed writer Wajahat Ali accused Republicans of not being patriots if they didn’t vote for the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. And then he made the huge mistake of giving an example of someone who is a patriot and someone who is not a patriot.

He called Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) a patriot and Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Tx.) not a patriot.

“Anytime a Republican says they are ‘patriots’ ask them if they voted to fund the 9/11 Victims Compensation Fund. You know who’s for it? Ilhan Omar. You know who hasn’t sponsored it? Dan Crenshaw,” Ali wrote on Twitter.

“@DanCrenshawTX, I hope you do the right thing. If not, why aren’t you?” he added.

That’s when Crenshaw gave him the one-two. He didn’t even have to aim.

“Hey ‘journalist,’ maybe you should check your facts,” Crenshaw replied. “I am a co-sponsor [of the 9/11 Fund]. Nice try though.”

But the Afghanistan War veteran, who served our country as a U.S. Navy SEAL, wasn’t done yet.

“Also, ‘patriotism,’” he added, posting a photo on Twitter to prove it. It was an X-ray image of his skull showing the injury that cost him his right eye after he got hit with an improvised explosive device (IED).

Wow. Of all the people Ali could have chosen to question their patriotism.

Crenshaw even remained in the Navy after his life-changing injury, serving for a total of ten years and going overseas twice more, according to the Washington Examiner.

Thoroughly decimated, Ali deleted his original tweet and replied to Crenshaw. He didn’t apologize until the next tweet, though, and still took a snide shot at the congressman.

“Thanks for letting me know,” Ali wrote. “I'm glad you did and I have no problem correcting and updating the record with facts. Now try it with your comments about Ilhan Omar. You'll feel better. Sincerely, a fellow patriot.”

His next tweet read: “I deleted this b/c Dan Crenshaw supported the Fund in May after being a holdout. Apologies to him for the tweet. I have no problem admitting it & correcting the record with facts. For those trying to ‘own’ me, especially as you still promote ‘alternative facts,’ enjoy Tuesday.”
