New York socialist candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted Israel as an oppressive “occupier” of Palestine during an interview with PBS — but face-planted when asked to elaborate on her claim.
Ocasio-Cortez began by accusing Israel of carrying out a “massacre” when it defended itself during an attack from Hamas terrorists.
While she admitted Israel has the right to “exist,” she also said "people are starting to see, at least, in the occupation of Palestine, is just an increasing crisis of humanitarian condition. And that, to me, is just where I tend to come from on this issue.”
When “Firing Line” host Margaret Hoover asked her to elaborate on what she meant by “occupation,” Ocasio-Cortez offered a disaster of an answer.
“Um, I think what I meant is like… the settlements that are increasing in some of these areas and places where Palestinians are experiencing difficulty in access to their housing and homes,” she said.
Hoover continued to press the socialist, asking her again to “expand” on her views.
Sensing she was in trouble, Ocasio-Cortez admitted she didn’t really know what she was talking about on the issue.
"Yeah, I mean, I think I'd also just — I am not the expert on geo-politics on this issue,” she said.
It sparked some pretty hilarious parody videos online:
That was humiliating.
