Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is breaking with Hollywood when it comes to “generation snowflake” and the current assault on free speech.
In an interview with the Daily Star, the highest paid actor in the world said the younger generation feels entitled to stifle free speech every time they feel “offended.
"So many good people fought for freedom and equality — but this generation are looking for a reason to be offended, Johnson said.
He added: “If you are not agreeing with them then they are offended — and that is not what so many great men and women fought for.”
The actor explained the progress experienced over recent decades is great for society, but “generation snowflake” is trying to take us backwards.
"We thankfully now live in a world that has progressed over the last 30 or 40 years. People can be who they want, be with who they want, and live how they want. That can only be a good thing,” Johnson said.
He then added this caveat: “But generation snowflake or, whatever you want to call them, are actually putting us backwards.”
So how does The Rock handle it when he’s confronted with an opinion that “offends” him or he disagrees with?
“"I don’t have to agree with what somebody thinks, who they vote for, what they voted for, what they think, but I will back their right to say or believe it. That's democracy,” he said.
Do you agree with The Rock's view on free speech?
