An alleged would-be-robber might have thought he was picking an easy target when he threatened a young woman waiting outside her apartment. But then he got his clock cleaned. Big time.
The woman was 26-year-old mixed martial arts fighter Polyana Viana.
The incident took place in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, according to WGN9. The suspect approached the Brazilian MMA fighter and asked her for the time.
"And then he said, 'Give me the phone. Don't try to react, because I'm armed,'” Viana recounted, according to CNN. “Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realized it was too soft,"
That gave her enough reason to beat the stuffing out of him.
“I threw two punches and a kick,” Viana recalled. “He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.'”
UFC president Dana White posted a photo on Instagram of Viana alongside a photo of what happened to the suspect.
Ouch! That looks like it hurts!
Other than her hands feeling a little sore from delivering the pummeling, Viana was unharmed. In fact, she gave the guy such a beating that he was practically begging her to call the police so they’d rescue him.
According to MMAJunkie, Viana said, “I was fine. I was fine because he didn’t even react after. Since he took the punches very quickly, I think he was scared. So he didn’t react anymore. He told me to let him go…. I said I wouldn’t let go and that I was going to call the police.”
“He said, ‘Call the police, then’ because he was scared I was going to beat him up more,” she added.
This was not the first time the MMA fighter has been attacked in Rio. Another time within the past couple years, two men on a motorcycle stopped in front of her, and one of them got off and charged at her.
“He broke my umbrella and tried to take my phone,” Viana recalled. “I said I wasn’t going to give it to him. He tried to take it from my hand, I punched him in the face, and he was scared. This time I was scared. I don’t know if it was because there were two of them.
“So I was scared, but I think he was more scared than I was, so he jumped on the motorcycle and left,” she added.
In other news, a young woman was attacked by a man in Chicago Tuesday morning. According to WGN9, the 25-year-old was waiting for a bus when an armed 19-year-old man tried to rob her. While this woman wasn’t an MMA fighter, she was licensed to carry a concealed weapon and drew her gun, shooting the man in the neck and killing him. Police are investigating the incident.
