Following President Donald Trump’s visit to Pittsburgh to pay his respects to the victims of the horrific Tree of Life synagogue, much of the media attention has been focused on leftist protesters who denounced his visit.

However, to the people actually affected, Trump’s visit was important.

Tree of Life Rabbi Jeffrey Myers recalled his interactions with President Trump, telling CNN that he was “pleasantly surprised” by his demeanor.

“I was privileged to have a private 15 or 20 minutes with the family. The president was very warm and very consoling,” Rabbi Myers said. “He put his hand on my shoulder and the first question he asked me was, ‘Tell me Rabbi, how are you doing?”

He revealed that he witnessed a side of Trump that the media rarely shows.

“I must say, throughout the time we spent together, I was pleasantly surprised by a warm and personal side to the president that I don’t think America has ever seen,” the Rabbi added.

CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota was silent for several seconds and then only said, “Yeah.” She seemed to be visibly surprised by his remarks.

Rabbi Myers went on to say he shared his personal story of the shooting with the Trumps, and it disturbed them greatly.

“I shared the same message that I’ve shared with you throughout the course of the week that hate speech has no place in our society,” he said. “Hate speech leads to actions of hate; hate speech led to the death of seven of my congregants and 11 total in my building.”

Rabbi Myers said he wished to keep the rest of his conversation with Trump private.
