Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) absolutely grilled FBI agent Peter Strzok over his anti-Trump bias amid multiple investigations during a House Judiciary Committee on Thursday. Strzok maintained that he displayed no "bias" while working at the FBI.
Gowdy confronted Strzok specifically about a damning text in which he told former FBI lawyer Lisa Page, “We’ll stop” Donald Trump from becoming president.
Watch the video below:
"[Trump is] not ever going to become president, right? Right?!" Page wrote.
"No. No he won't. We'll stop it," Strzok responded.
Strzok claimed the “we” he was referring to was the American people, not himself or the FBI.
Gowdy then asked about another text in which Strzok argued Democrat Hillary Clinton should defeat Trump “100 million to zero.” However, it was his follow-up question that was devastating.
"In March of 2016, weren't you investigating her for the potential mishandling of classified information?” Gowdy asked.
“We were,” Strzok responded.
“Had you interviewed her yet?” Gowdy pressed.
Strzok answered, “Uh, no.”
Continuing to probe the FBI employee’s alleged bias, Gowdy then asked him if he remembered how long it took for him to start talking about impeaching Trump after Bob Mueller was appointed as special counsel.
“I don't, sir,” Strzok said.
“One day,” Gowdy shot back.
The Republican from South Carolina concluded his line of questioning with one final and brutal point.
“I don’t give a damn what you appreciate, Agent Strzok. I don’t appreciate having an FBI agent with an unprecedented level of animus working on two major investigations during 2016,” Gowdy said.
The exchange first turned tense after Strzok refused to answer Gowdy’s question concerning how many interviews he conducted related to alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign.
Under the threat of being held in contempt, Strzok argued the FBI advised him not to answer any questions about the ongoing Russia probe.
