President Donald Trump sent a blistering message to Democrats on Monday after they blocked a bill requiring doctors to provide medical care to infants who survive abortion procedures.
“Senate Democrats just voted against legislation to prevent the killing of newborn infant children. The Democrat position on abortion is now so extreme that they don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth,” Trump tweeted.
The president added: “This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress. If there is one thing we should all agree on, it’s protecting the lives of innocent babies.”
The bill, appropriately titled The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, was rejected with a 53-44 vote in the Senate.
"This bill amends the federal criminal code to require any health care practitioner who is present when a child is born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion to: (1) exercise the same degree of care as reasonably provided to any other child born alive at the same gestational age, and (2) ensure that such child is immediately admitted to a hospital," the bill states.
Only four Democrats voted for the bill. Several prominent 2020 candidates voted against the legislation to allow born-alive infants to live.
Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Kamala Harris (Calif.), Amy Klobuchar (Minn.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), and Bernie Sanders all voted “No” on the bill.
Prior to the vote, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) tweeted:
"Today every Senator will have to vote on a straightforward question:
If a botched abortion results in a live birth, should doctors be required to use the same degree of skill & care to protect the newborn as they would offer any other child born alive at same gestational age?"
Remember how Democrats voted in 2020.
