President Donald Trump granted a full pardon to former media mogul Conrad Black on Wednesday.
Black served 36 months in federal prison on a fraud conviction. Black is also the author of a book about Trump.
“Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Grant of Clemency (Full Pardon) for Lord Conrad M. Black of Crossharbour,” the White House confirmed in a statement.
“In 2007, prosecutors alleged that Lord Black had committed several acts of mail fraud and obstruction. The Supreme Court of the United States, however, largely disagreed and overturned almost all charges in his case. He nevertheless spent 3.5 years in prison,” the statement said.
Before even knowing any of the details in the case, liberals were furious Trump pardoned someone who apparently supported him.
The pardon comes days after Trump pardoned former Army Lt. Michael Benenna, who was convicted of murdering a suspected terrorist. Benenna claimed the terrorist suspect lunged at him and he fired in self-defense.
“Mr. Behenna’s case has attracted broad support from the military, Oklahoma elected officials, and the public. Thirty-seven generals and admirals, along with former Inspector General of the Department of Defense, signed a brief in support of Mr. Behenna’s self-defense claim,” the White House said in a statement.
The statement continued: “Numerous members of the Oklahoma congressional delegation, Oklahoma’s then-Governor Mary Fallin, and current Attorney General Mike Hunter have also expressed support for Mr. Behenna.”
