Former Vice President Joe Biden officially announced on Thursday that he is running for president of the United States.
President Donald Trump didn’t waste any time in “welcoming” Biden to the race, giving him the nickname that will stick with him throughout the 2020 campaign.
“Welcome to the race Sleepy Joe. I only hope you have the intelligence, long in doubt, to wage a successful primary campaign,” Trump tweeted.
He added: “It will be nasty - you will be dealing with people who truly have some very sick & demented ideas. But if you make it, I will see you at the Starting Gate!”

Trump later retweeted several tweets reminding the American people of Biden’s record and the success that he will have to run against.
“If Joe Biden wants to keep score:
In 8 years, Biden & Obama had a net loss of 193,000 manufacturing jobs.
In just over 2 years, @realDonaldTrump has created 453,000 manufacturing jobs.
Don’t let Biden take us backwards!” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted.
He also shared a tweet from the GOP that asked: “Do you want to go back to a bad economy, failed foreign policy, and more broken promises?”
The tweet included a video featuring Biden.
