President Donald Trump held his highly anticipated summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki, Finland on Monday — but one moment was getting all the attention.
As the two world leaders sat down for a joint press conference, Trump can be seen on video offering Putin a sly wink before delivering his remarks.
Watch the video below:
As you can imagine, Trump’s critics saw a hidden “collusion” message in the common gesture.
Seriously, liberals are freaking out.
It's quite a different reaction than liberals had when then-President Barack Obama assured outgoing Russian President Dmitry Medvedev he would have "more flexibility" after the presidential election.
"I will transmit this information to Vladimir," Medvedev responded.
President Trump late said U.S.-Russia relations improved significantly due to his private meeting with Putin. He argued it would have been easier to “refuse to meet” with Putin, but such an act “would not accomplish anything."
"Our relationship has never been worse than it is now. However, that changed as of about four hours ago. I really believe that," Trump said.
Despite the recent indictments recently filed against 12 Russian nationals for allegedly trying to influence the 2016 presidential election, Putin denied ever trying to interfere with a U.S. election.
"Once again, President Trump mentioned issue of the so-called interference of Russia with the American elections. I had to reiterate things I said several times, including during our personal contacts, that the Russian state has never interfered and is not going to interfere in internal American affairs, including election process,” Putin said.
Trump said he also discussed "nuclear proliferation, the denuclearization of North Korea, and radical Islamic terrorism" with Putin, according to CNN.
"I called him a competitor, and a good competitor he is. I think the word competitor is a compliment," Trump told a reporter.
