A 20-year-old woman is getting dubbed the “vegan bridezilla” after she sought advice on the “Vegan revolution” Facebook group and revealed that she was disinviting non-vegans from her upcoming wedding.
According to Delish, the unnamed woman insisted that her wedding not only be “fully vegan,” but that she wants all her guests to be vegan because she doesn’t want to “host murderers.”
“When ‘family’ tries to guilt trip you into letting them come to your fully vegan wedding even though they are omnivores,” the bride-to-be wrote, according to a Reddit thread that shared her Facebook post.
“Just for some context family members were told they are not invited to my wedding because we don’t want to host murderers at our wedding which is supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives,” she added.
According to ABC 7, the vegan bride wanted to ban anyone who wasn’t already vegan or didn’t commit to living a vegan lifestyle because she couldn’t stomach the idea of her guests eating meat the next day. Even after her friends and family members agreed to her vegan menu, she started disinviting anyone who insisted on still being omnivores after the wedding.
That included banning her own mom and two of her bridesmaid cousins.
The bride followed up her original comment by writing: "When I broke the news to them [my guests], all I got was attacked because I don't want the weight of having people that still kill animals (the very beings we are trying to protect) at my wedding on my conscience. I'm not sorry if that makes me 'rude' or 'a b----' because I am not compromising the ethics that I share with everyone here."
But she’s not finding a whole lot of support on social media either, even from fellow vegans.
“Banning non-vegans is insane,” said one vegan Reddit user who had a meat-free wedding. “I just wanted to clarify the person is insane and not the ideology.”
“This whole ‘you're a bunch of murderers’ thing is nothing but attention seeking nonsense,” another said. “If they actually cared about encouraging others to try veganism they'd do it by providing opportunities for their friends and family to experience just how good vegan food can actually be.”
Another Reddit user explained, “For some people, especially young immature people, lifestyle choices tend to become there [sic] entire life because they cant understand healthy balance because that's THEIR LIFE MAN.”
"I love how she refers to it as 'my wedding' not 'our wedding,'" one person observed. "Her husband is in for a lovely life I'm sure!"
“I can't imagine anyone (other than mom) being really upset they will miss this doozy of a dramafest,” someone pointed out.
One of the disinvited bridesmaids who had already bought her dress apparently commented back, "I just wish she didn't invite us in the first place.”
