Want to be reminded throughout the day to drink water? There’s an app for that. Want to find your lost car in a parking lot? There’s an app for that. Want to know if a restaurant has good food and service? There’s an app for that.
Want to know if a restaurant is safe for wearing your MAGA hat in? There’s now an app for that, too.
Scott Wallace, founder of the 63red Safe app, was inspired by attacks on Trump officials and supporters inside restaurants to create a smartphone app that helps people know if an eatery — or other type of business — may be hostile to them if they wear Trump apparel, legally carry a concealed weapon, or express political views, according to The Hill.
In an interview with “Fox & Friends” on Monday, Wallace said, “We’re not looking to find restaurants that are conservative or pro-Trump. Our aim is to get politics out of local businesses, local restaurants, and make everyone feel comfortable when they go out.”
Asked how a business is deemed “unsafe,” he explained, “Users can review the local businesses and restaurants. It’s just four quick questions, yes or no questions.”
“Number one, does this location serve all customers regardless of political beliefs?” he continued. “Will they protect their customers if they’re under attack by others in the restaurant? There’s a concealed carry question. And does the location have a political presence in their social media?”
“We’re trying to get politics out of these businesses,” Wallace explained. “People just want to go out and eat. They just want to go out and shop. Let’s not mix the two.”
The Daily Beast noted that The Red Hen in Lexington, Virginia has been flagged as “unsafe” after its owner reportedly drove White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders out of the establishment, followed her out, and got other people to scream at her in protest of the Trump administration.
In one recent incident, a man was allegedly assaulted by a woman at a Mexican restaurant for wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat. Police arrested her, and she later got in trouble with ICE for being in America illegally.
In another incident, a man reportedly pulled a gun on a couple because the husband was wearing a MAGA hat. It took place at a Sam’s Club in Kentucky.
A famous chef in the San Francisco area learned that mixing business was politics was bad for business when he announced on Twitter that he’s banning anyone who wears a MAGA hat from his restaurant. After receiving a massive backlash, he gave a half-hearted apology.
