House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed she was unaware of Democrat Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s shocking comments about post-birth abortion when asked by a reporter on Thursday.

Pelosi was asked if Northam’s comments make it harder for “pro-life Democrats” to unify with the party at large.

“I’m sorry, I just don’t know what he said yesterday,” Pelosi said.

She then moved on immediately to another reporter and asked, “Are you going to ask a new question?”

Gov. Northam was asked about a Democrat Virginia lawmaker’s proposed legislation to allow women to have an abortion while still in labor. In his attempt to claim the outrage over the bill was “blown out of proportion,” he laid out a scenario in which post-birth abortion could occur.

Here’s exactly what the Democrat said:

“This is why decisions such as this should be made by providers, physicians, and the mothers and fathers that are involved. When we talk about third-trimester abortions, these are done with the consent of the mother, with the consent of physicians, more than one physician by the way, and it’s done in cases where there may be severe deformities, there may be a fetus which is non-viable. So in this particular example, if the mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen, the infant would be delivered, the infant would be kept comfortable, the infant would be resuscitated if this is what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physician and the mother.”

If Pelosi’s refusal to even respond to the comments is any indicator, Democrats must realize this is a losing issue for them with Americans heading into 2020.

President Donald Trump took a strong stance on the issue in a Thursday tweet.

"Democrats are becoming the Party of late term abortion, high taxes, Open Borders and Crime!" the president wrote.
