Mike Pence has been quite visible for a vice president, and he proved that again during a surprise appearance at a pastors’ conference in Washington, D.C. According to CBN News, he gave a plea to pastors, shared a little of his testimony, and highlighted what President Trump has done for Christians in America.
Speaking to the pastors from the podium, Pence said, “I truly do believe that other than the service of those who wear the uniform of the United States, especially our cherished fallen, the ministries that you lead, the prayers that you pray are of the greatest consequence in the life of a nation.”
“So I encourage you to keep it up,” he admonished. “Keep preaching the Good News. Keep preaching in season and out of season, as the Bible says. Always be prepared to give a reason for the hope that you have.”
Sharing his personal testimony, the vice president said, “It was 40 years ago this spring in 1978 that I was at a Christian music conference in Wilmore, Kentucky. I’d been raised going to church every Sunday, a very faithful family, believing parents.”
“But when I went off to college, I kind of set all that stuff aside. There I was, the end of my freshman year at this Christian music conference. And I heard one clear presentation of the Gospel after another,” he continued.
“I literally walked down and gave my life to Jesus Christ,” he concluded. “So I just want you to continue to share the Gospel, share that life-changing message
Speaking about Trump, Pence later said, “I couldn’t be more proud to be serving as vice president to the most pro-life president in American history.”
Amidst applause, he continued, “It was a few days after the Inauguration the president reinstituted the Mexico City policy, banning federal funding for abortion organizations around the world. We empowered states to defund Planned Parenthood.”
“And just this last week, the president reinstituted the rule at HHS [US Health & Human Services] to prohibit Title X funding from going to organizations that provide or perform abortions,” he said to the crowd as they erupted into cheers and rose to their feet.
“Standing without apology for the unborn and the sanctity of life — that’s President Trump,” he added.
Planned Parenthood, the nation’s biggest abortion clinic, received $57.3 million in federal funding in 2015, according to Life Site News. The money will go to women’s health centers that don’t perform abortions instead.
