As Democratic leaders bash heads with President Trump over his U.S.-Mexico border wall, calling it immoral and inhumane, former President Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are being blasted by videos of themselves in the recent past making incredible arguments in favor of border walls and tough immigration law enforcement.
Conservative media analyst Mark Dice created a compilation video of them sounding a whole lot like the pro-border wall crowd. Take a look:
— Schumer during the Obama administration: “I want to make it extremely clear that first and foremost, we are committed to ending the waves of illegal immigration that we’ve seen in the last thirty years.
— Schumer: “Crossing the border without permission from the government is a crime. When we catch someone crossing the border, prosecute them, and deport them, we are solving the crime and punishing the criminals.”
— Schumer: “One of the most effective things we do at the border is turn people back!”
— Schumer: “...fewer illegal immigrants, higher GDP [Gross Domestic Product], more jobs, reduced deficit. Who could oppose that? I don’t know of anybody.”
Dice pointed out that very recently, Schumer proclaimed, “President Trump, you will not get your wall. Abandon your shutdown strategy. You’re not getting the wall today, next week, or on Jan. 3 when Democrats take control of the House.”
Here are some more:
— Schumer: “Any immigration solution must recognize that we must do as much as we can to gain control of our borders as soon as possible. But we also need to set the record straight: The American people need to know that because of our efforts in Congress, our border is far more secure today than we began debating comprehensive reform in 2005. Between 2005 and 2009, a vast amount of progress has been made on our borders and ports of entry. Our progress includes 9,000 new Border Patrol field agents in the last four years, construction of a 630-mile construction fence — or 630 miles of border fence — that create a significant barrier to illegal immigration on our southern land border. And, third, the implementation of new border technologies that serve as force multipliers that allow the Border Patrol to maintain control of larger segments of the border with fewer agents.”
— President Obama: “Real reform means stronger border security, and we can build on the progress my administration has already made — putting more boots on the southern border than at any time in our history and reducing illegal crossings to their lowest levels in 40 years. Real reform means establishing responsible pathways to earned citizenship, a path that includes passing a background check, paying taxes and a meaningful penalty, learning English, and going to the back of the line behind the folks trying to come here legally.
— Hillary: “I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. I do think you have to control your borders.”
Dice also pointed out that time Schumer chided the nation, saying, “People who enter the United States without our permission are illegal aliens, and illegal aliens should not be treated the same as people who enter the U.S. legally.”
Schumer added, “When we use phrases like ‘undocumented workers,’ we convey a message to the American people that their government is not serious about combating illegal immigration, which the American people overwhelmingly oppose.”
