Thousands of people joined a rally in Washington, D.C. on Friday for support the lives of unborn babies during the 2018 March for Life event.
Especially prevalent on the National Mall were thousands of high school and college students who had come to hear the speakers and express their solidarity with the pro-life movement in America.
The crowd roared in excitement as Vice President Mike Pence and his wife Karen, who has recently been under attack for her desire to return to teaching at a Christian school, made a surprise appearance on stage and shared a few words.
“It is my privilege to stand with you for life,” Karen told the crowd before introducing her husband.
The vice president thanked “all of the great young people in this pro-life generation.”
“We gather here because we believe, as our founders did, that we are all of us — born and unborn — endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights,” he continued. “And first among these rights is the right to life.”
After talking about how “life is winning in America” as people’s hearts are being changed to oppose abortion, he said “listen to the truth and know that He who said ‘before I formed you in the womb, I know you’ also said ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’ as you stand for His creation.”
“Know that you have an unwavering ally in this vice president and our family, and you have a champion in the president of the United States of America, President Donald Trump!” he added.
After listing the pro-life actions Trump has taken already, the vice president introduced the president, who spoke to the crowd via a large video screen.
“When we look into the eyes of a newborn child, we see the beauty in the human soul and the Majesty of God's creation,” Trump told the crowd in his message. “We know that every life has meaning and that every life is worth protecting. As president, I will always defend the first right in our Declaration of Independence, the right to life.”
And then he made a powerful promise: “Today, I have signed a letter to Congress to make clear that if they send any legislation to my desk that weakens the protection of human life, I will issue a veto. And we have the support to uphold those vetoes. Every child is a sacred gift from God.”
“Together we will work to save the lives of unborn children so that they have a chance to live and to love, to thrive and to dream, and to bless our nation and reach their full and glorious potential,” he concluded.
