WATCH: Trump's Meeting With Pelosi, Schumer Gets HEATED When Trump Drops a Stunner

President Donald Trump sat down with top Senate Democrats Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer on Tuesday to discuss the looming government shutdown and whether an agreement can be reached to strengthen America’s borders.

At one point, the meeting turned heated when the possibility of an intentional government shutdown was raised.

Trump played no political games, telling Schumer that he was willing to shut down the government if Democrats refused to secure the border as part of Congress’ new spending bill.

“Yes, if we don’t get what we want, one way or the other… I will shut down the government,” Trump said.

He added: ”I am proud to shut down the government for border security, Chuck, because the people of this country don't want criminals and people who have lots of problems and drugs pouring into the country. So I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down.”

Trump also pointed out that the last time Schumer and Democrats shut down the government it “didn’t work.”

Watch the tense moment below:

Trump has made the border wall and strengthening border security a top priority in the second half of his presidency. His efforts intensified after the migrant caravan attempted to flood into the United States illegally.

“Despite the large Caravans that WERE forming and heading to our Country, people have not been able to get through our newly built Walls, makeshift Walls & Fences, or Border Patrol Officers & Military. They are now staying in Mexico or going back to their original countries,” Trump tweeted.

He continued: “Ice, Border Patrol and our Military have done a FANTASTIC job of securing our Southern Border. A Great Wall would be, however, a far easier & less expensive solution. We have already built large new sections & fully renovated others, making them like new.”

However, he accused Democrats of playing political games with America’s border security.

“I look forward to my meeting with Chuck Schumer & Nancy Pelosi. In 2006, Democrats voted for a Wall, and they were right to do so,” Trump tweeted before Tuesday’s meeting. “Today, they no longer want Border Security. They will fight it at all cost, and Nancy must get votes for Speaker. But the Wall will get built.”
