The Red Headed Stranger decided to do something he’s never done before, and it has quite a few country music fans upset — and some are even telling the Texan to “git” out of the Lone Star State.
According to Rolling Stone, Willie Nelson, 85, is making an unprecedented move by performing at a free, public rally to get out the vote for a political candidate — and it’s not for a Republican.
The country music legend will headline a Sept. 29 rally for Beto O’Rourke, the Democratic Senate candidate challenging running against another famous Texan, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, ABC 13 reported.
Explaining his decision to break into the political world in such a big way, Nelson explained, “My wife Annie and I have met and spoken with Beto and we share his concern for the direction things are headed. Beto embodies what is special about Texas, an energy and an integrity that is completely genuine.”

Quite a few of his fans, especially Texans, aren’t happy about it.
